Short video and live streaming platform chingari has launched Chingari Game Zone, marking its foray into the Web3 gaming space.

Built on the Aptos blockchain, Chingari Game Zone will leverage its expertise in social media, entertainment and blockchain tech to create engaging and interactive gaming experiences for users.

The startup said that the game zone will offer a curated selection of popular and engaging mobile games. Primarily, it will offer Ludo, in the voice communication-based web3 game format.

In these games, users will be rewarded with Gari tokens for using the Chingari Game Zone. Going ahead into the next quarter, Chingari plans to launch more games to expand its Web3 gaming portfolio and cater to diverse tastes and preferences.

Cofounder and CEO Sumit Ghosh said, “Our goal is to create a seamless and engaging gaming experience that utilises the benefits of blockchain technology. We believe that Web3 has the potential to revolutionise the gaming industry and provide a new level of excitement and competition for gamers worldwide.”

According to Ghosh, the startup’s expertise in social media and entertainment and experience in blockchain technology positions it well to make a significant impact in the gaming industry.

Founded in 2018 by Ghosh, Aditya Kothari, Biswatma Nayak and Deepak Salvi, Chingari is an on-chain social app which enables users to upload videos, interact with friends, and share and browse content.

The fresh development comes almost a year after Inc42 reported that Chingari was taking the NSFW route. Back then, after several hours of examination, Inc42 found that the company was stepping into the 18+ content segment with paid live 1-on-1 calls between creators and users.

Following this, the startup sacked over 50% of its staff in a bid to cut down expenses. The layoff impacted employees from teams like product, customer support, design and marketing.

Interestingly, following the layoff, Chingari reported that its net loss narrowed 69.5% to INR 42.5 Cr in the FY23 from INR 139.4 Cr in the prior fiscal. However, it attributed the number to its growing top line and cut in advertising costs.
