The Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani – K.K. Birla Goa Campus has established itself as one of India’s premier educational institutions, known for fostering innovation, leadership, and excellence. Among its flagship student led initiatives is Spree, its annual inter-collegiate sports festival, which has grown into one of the most prominent sporting events in the country.
Recognised as India’s largest inter-college sports festival, Spree brings together over 8,000 participants from 150+ colleges for three days of intense, high-level competition across a wide range of sporting disciplines. The festival features 14+ sports, including major team sports such as football, cricket, and basketball, alongside individual and precision-based events like badminton, tennis, table tennis, athletics, squash, and swimming. With structured tournaments, knockout formats, and professional-grade organisation, Spree provides athletes with a platform that closely mirrors national-level competition.
Over the years, Spree has witnessed exponential growth in both participation and competitiveness, attracting some of the best collegiate athletes from across India. The festival has built a reputation for delivering not just scale, but also quality sporting infrastructure, fair competition, and a highly competitive environment, making it a benchmark for inter collegiate sports fests.
A key highlight associated with the festival is the Spree Marathon, which has already been successfully conducted this year, witnessing participation from over 1200 runners. The marathon brought together students, athletes, and members of the local community, reinforcing Spree’s commitment to promoting fitness, endurance, and community engagement. Beyond the competitive arena, Spree continues to inspire athletes through interactions with some of the most celebrated names in the sporting world. Previous editions have hosted personalities such as Kapil Dev, Abhinav Bindra, Yogeshwar Dutt, and Michael Clarke, offering participants valuable insights and motivation.
What further distinguishes Spree is its ability to combine sporting excellence with large-scale entertainment. The festival hosts high-energy Pro-Nights, featuring performances by renowned artists such as Ankit Tiwari, Mithoon, Seedhe Maut, Kr$na, Mohammad Irfan, DJ Nucleya, and international EDM act DJ Marnik, making it the only sports fest in the country to integrate concerts of this scale.
As it continues to evolve, Spree is not just redefining collegiate sports in India, but also building a dynamic ecosystem that seamlessly blends competition, culture, and community engagement, solidifying its position as a landmark event in the country’s student and sporting calendar.
