Minister of State for Commerce and Industries Som Parkash on Friday (July 22) informed the Parliament that the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade has recognised over 4,500 startups working in the field of emerging technologies (DPIIT).
According to the minister’s written response, these recognised startups are involved in domains such as the Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and analytics, among others. According to the minister, agritech startups incubated through government programmes are working on projects that combine traditional agriculture with allied sectors such as AI, IoT, blockchain, information communication technology, precision farming, and digital agriculture, among others. Parkash also stated that 26 centres of excellence (CoEs) have been established throughout the country to develop capabilities in the field of emerging technologies.
