Fintech startup Tartan raised $4.5 milion in Pre-Series from 500 Global, InfoEdge Ventures, Naval Ravikant-backed AngelList Quant Fund, WorldQuant Ventures, Varanium GenNext Fund, 9Unicorns, Yatra Angel Network, Emphasis Ventures (EMVC) and Naveen Kukreja.

Tartan provides a data API (Application Programming Interface) suite that allows financial institutions to access their customers’ payroll data with their permission in order to better verify their income and employment status. Tartan will use the new funds to scale its go-to-market operations, expand its in-house engineering team, and improve its product offerings. Tartan claims to cover more than 20 million white collar and gig workers in India, with 150,000 API requests per month.
