Social media platform Twitter received 1,253 complaints in India between June 26, 2022 and July 25, 2022 via various local grievance redressal mechanisms. Furthermore, the microblogging platform took action against 138 URLs for breaking community rules.
The majority of the 1,253 complaints (874) were about online harassment. This was followed by complaints about hateful behaviour (303), sensitive adult content (31), impersonation (18), and intellectual property infringement (13), among other things. Twitter also banned over 45,000 accounts for violating rules regarding child sexual exploitation, non-consensual nudity, terrorism, and other similar content. 42,825 of these handles promoted content related to child sexual exploitation and non-consensual nudity, while the remainder were punished for promoting terrorism.
