Police at Amazon facility threaten to arrest union leader Christian Smalls

Share via:

Christian Smalls, a leader in the unionisation movement for Amazon warehouse workers, was threatened with arrest yesterday while organising at a fulfilment centre bus stop near Albany, New York, where workers recently filed for a union election.

Workers at this warehouse, ALB1, in Schodack, New York, are attempting to join the Amazon Labor Union. Smalls is the president of the group, which helped form Amazon’s first recognised labour union at his former Staten Island warehouse. Smalls has emerged as a labour movement leader, testifying before Congress and meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House. The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), the local public transportation provider, operates the bus stop, but Amazon claims it is part of its private warehouse property.
