Government does not support charging users a fee for BBPS transactions

The Indian government reportedly wants to keep electronic transactions under the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) free of cost.

According to a government official familiar with the situation, the government may direct the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to conduct an investigation into the wrongdoers and take appropriate action against them. “An order has already been issued by the relevant authority.” “The IBA can conduct a further review and recommend course corrections if necessary,” the official was quoted as saying. BBPS is a one-stop shop for paying recurring utility bills such as telcom, electricity, gas, and insurance, among others. UPI, Aadhar Enabled Payment System (AEPS), and NEFT are some of the payment methods available through BBPS.
