400 workers in Washington state to be laid off due to Amazon Care shutdown

Almost 400 Washington state employees will be laid off as a result of the company’s decision to discontinue its Amazon Care primary healthcare services.

According to email alerts from the state’s Employment Security Department, 159 Amazon Care employees will be laid off. Care Medical, an independent company that provided healthcare to Amazon Care members, will lose another 236 employees. The layoffs will begin on December 1. Amazon abruptly discontinued Amazon Care, which debuted in 2019 and provided a hybrid of virtual, in-home primary care, and urgent care services.
