In yet another tragic EV fire in the country, at least eight people were reported dead in Secunderabad after a charging unit at an electric scooter manufacturer Gemopai showroom caught fire and spread to a hotel above it.

“A fire broke out in an electric scooter charging unit on the ground floor, and smoke from the fire overwhelmed residents on the first and second floors.” People who remained jumped from the building and were rescued by locals. “They were rushed to the hospital, and fire tenders were dispatched on the spot,” Hyderabad Commissioner CV Anand was quoted by news agency ANI as saying. At least 13 people were also injured as a result of the incident. The source and cause of the fire are currently being investigated. “We don’t know if the fire started as a result of overcharging and then spread, or if it started somewhere else.” “That is still being established,” Hyderabad deputy commissioner Chandana Deepti was quoted as saying by Reuters.
