Twitter will form a content moderation council with “diverse viewpoints,” according to Elon Musk

Elon Musk announced on Friday, a day after closing the Twitter deal, that the social media platform will form a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints.” He announced on Twitter that no major content decisions or account reinstatements will take place until the council meets.

“The bird is freed,” he tweeted, an apparent reference to his desire for the company to place fewer restrictions on the content that can be posted. Musk previously stated in a note to Twitter advertisers that “it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.” “Obviously, the platform cannot become a free-for-all hellscape where anything can be said with no consequences!” Musk stated.
