Twitter to charge $20 per month for verification

Now that he owns Twitter, Elon Musk has issued his first ultimatum to employees: meet his deadline for introducing paid verification on Twitter or pack up and leave.

According to people familiar with the matter and internal correspondence seen by The Verge, the directive is to convert Twitter Blue, the company’s optional $4.99 per month subscription that unlocks additional features, into a more expensive subscription that also verifies users. Twitter’s new Twitter Blue subscription will currently cost $19.99 per month. Verified users would have 90 days to subscribe or lose their blue checkmark under the current plan. Employees working on the project were told on Sunday that they must launch the feature by November 7th or face termination.
