The already tumultuous situation at the social media platform got worse when a significant number of contract employees at Twitter were let go immediately and without warning.
According to internal communications shared with CNBC by full-time Twitter employees, contract workers “lost access to Slack and other work systems.” Platformer, which broke the news of the cuts first, estimates that 4,400 of its 5,500 contract employees were laid off. While some of the contract workers were dispersed across different locations, others were based in India.
