Europe’s top official in charge of enforcing digital regulations warned Twitter CEO Elon Musk that he must do more to combat disinformation in order to comply with EU law.
Thierry Breton, the EU commissioner for the internal market, spoke with Musk via video call and told him that “there is still huge work ahead” to bring the platform in line with Brussels’ rules. Breton shared a short, silent video clip of his videoconference on Musk’s platform Twitter, but then linked to a longer statement on the rival Mastodon network. “I welcome Elon Musk’s declarations of intent to prepare Twitter 2.0 for the DSA,” Breton said, referring to the EU Digital Services Act, Brussels’ overarching internet law. “But let’s be clear: there’s still a lot of work to be done,” he said.
