Google’s anti-competitive activities harm Indian consumers and economy: MapMyIndia CEO

Share via:

Google’s anti-competitive behaviour is damaging Indian consumers and the economy by suppressing “swadeshi” (indigenous) competitors, according to a top official of home-grown navigation service MapMyIndia.

The Competition Commission of India (CCI) fined Google Rs 1,337.76 crore in October for abusing its dominant position in different markets related to Android mobile devices, and ordered the internet giant to halt and desist from various unfair business practises. Google has filed an appeal with the NCLAT to challenge the CCI order on unfair business practises in the Android mobile device ecosystem, claiming that the decision is a major setback for its Indian users and businesses who rely on Android’s security features and may raise the cost of mobile devices.
