IT ministry looking to regulate online gaming for children

The Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY) may introduce new rules in the upcoming Digital India Act to limit the amount of time children can spend on a gaming app. According to the ministry, this is being done to combat gaming addiction in India.

According to the report, the new regulations may require gaming companies to implement mechanisms to prevent in-game purchases by anyone under the age of 18. The ministry will consult with gaming companies, parents, and school associations to determine how and what rules should be included. According to the official, one method of monitoring the number of hours a child spends playing a game per session could be through mobile phone usage disclosure.
