Shopping app Temu using TikTok’s strategy to keep its No. 1 spot on App Store

Share via:

Temu, a shopping app from Chinese e-commerce giant Pinduoduo, has been the top app in the U.S. app stores for quite some time. The mobile shopping app topped the American App Store charts in September and has maintained a high ranking ever since, including being the top-rated free app on Google Play since December 29, 2022.

Temu most recently reclaimed the top spot on the iOS App Store on January 3 and hasn’t lost it since. Temu provides access to a wide range of products, including fast fashion, and encourages users to share the app with friends in exchange for free goods, which may account for some of its growth. Temu offers affordable factory-to-consumer goods. However, it appears that a sizable portion of Temu’s new instals come from marketing expenditures.
