Google is said to have fired 453 employees from various departments in India late Thursday night, according to sources in the know.

According to sources, Sanjay Gupta, Country Head and Vice President, Google India, sent an email to the affected employees. Emails sent to Google India requesting comments did not receive a response. Alphabet Inc, Google’s parent company, announced the layoff of 12,000 employees, or 6% of its total global headcount, last month. Sundar Pichai, the company’s CEO, also emailed employees, stating that he accepts “full responsibility for the decisions that led us here.”
