Saudi Arabia removes 6 million pieces of extremist content

Telegram and the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) in Saudi Arabia removed 6,004,218 extremist content pieces and closed 1,840 channels affiliated with ISIS, Al Qaeda, and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham between January 1 and March 30.

Etidal identified and monitored the activity of three terrorist organisations on Telegram, discovering 2,773,902 pieces with extremist content on 477 channels belonging to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, 1,807,215 ISIS extremist content pieces on 1,040 channels, and 1,423,101 pieces by Al Qaeda on 323 channels. For unknown reasons, there was a surge in activity on January 9, with over 451,911 pieces of content released and circulated. Etidal and Telegram have collaborated for the second year in a row, removing over 21 million extremist content and channels in total.
