Nvidia Corp and MediaTek Inc have announced a collaboration aimed at developing technology to enhance advanced vehicle infotainment systems. The partnership aims to enable infotainment systems to stream video, games, and interact with drivers using artificial intelligence (AI).
As per the agreement, MediaTek will integrate Nvidia’s graphic processing unit (GPU) chiplet and software into the system-on-chips (SoCs) it supplies to automakers for infotainment displays. This integration will allow MediaTek systems to be compatible with automated driving systems based on Nvidia technology, with the potential to display the vehicle’s environment and monitor the driver through dashboard displays and cameras.
The complexity of in-vehicle displays and entertainment systems has been increasing as automakers incorporate additional features such as gaming, voice-activated AI capabilities, driver monitoring systems, and displays related to automated driving.
Nvidia’s partnership with MediaTek provides broader access to the $12 billion market for infotainment system-on-chips, expanding its reach beyond premium automotive brands to include lower-priced, mass-market vehicle lines. While Nvidia has primarily focused on premium brands like Mercedes-Benz and Jaguar Land Rover, MediaTek’s expertise in the Android smartphone chip sector and its Dimensity Auto technology cater to more affordable vehicle segments. MediaTek also brings strengths in mobile connectivity and Android systems to the collaboration.
The partnership with MediaTek aligns with Nvidia’s strategy to address various automotive segments and expand its presence in the rapidly growing market for advanced infotainment systems. By leveraging AI and GPU technology, Nvidia and MediaTek aim to enhance the in-car experience and support the evolving demands of drivers and passengers alike.
