Swiss on-demand edtech startup Avidii enters Indian market, aims for 1 million users

Switzerland-based on-demand edtech platform Avidii has made its entry into the Indian market, bringing its customised learning solutions to students across the country. The startup, founded by Deepak Subbarao, Roman Buhler, Xavier Vanderhaeghe, and Yannick Streicher in Zurich in 2021, commenced its operations in Bengaluru, India, in early 2023.

Avidii claims to have already onboarded over 400 tutors in India and is operational in four countries. It aims to achieve one million users and downloads in India by the end of this year.

The platform offers customised learning solutions for subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Commerce, and Arts. It primarily caters to students aged 11 to 18 who follow curricula from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), the Indian Certificate of Secondary Examination (ICSE), and State Boards.

Avidii stands out by providing 24/7 direct and instant connectivity between tutors and students, following both business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-consumer (B2C) models. Its tutors use advanced teaching tools, including digital whiteboards, graphic annotation features, and sharing of learning materials to create comprehensive learning sessions for students.

One of Avidii’s unique selling points is its on-demand nature, which eliminates the requirement for students to commit to a minimum time period to complete a course. This flexibility sets it apart from other edtech players in the country.

The platform emphasizes personalized learning by ensuring tutors individually address each student’s doubts and queries. It also offers remote working options for tutors, enhancing their flexibility and work-life balance.

While Avidii enters a competitive edtech market in India, with major players like BYJU’S and Physics Wallah, it aims to carve its niche by focusing on on-demand learning and personalized tutoring.

The growing importance of the Indian edtech sector is evident, with startups in the space raising a total of $2.4 billion across 95 deals in 2022, according to the Inc42 Edtech Report 2022.

As Avidii expands its operations in India, it aims to provide quality education and support to students while leveraging the advantages of on-demand learning in the digital era.
