Ride-hailing and delivery service provider Careem has announced the extension of its ‘Dirhams for Delays’ cashback initiative until the end of June. The campaign, which offers AED 1 for every minute of delay in food delivery, aims to promote reliability and customer satisfaction. The maximum payment limit per order is set at AED 10, and the cashback is transferred to the customer’s Careem Pay wallet.
According to Alex Golden, Global Head of Careem Food, the initiative has received positive response and has raised awareness about Careem’s commitment to timely delivery while ensuring the welfare of their Captains. Golden stated that the company’s reliability levels have remained strong throughout the campaign, which prompted the decision to extend the offer until the end of June.
However, the policy has faced criticism from competitors Deliveroo and Talabat. Both companies expressed disapproval of the initiative, citing concerns about its impact on the safety of delivery drivers and the potential pressure it puts on them to deliver faster.
Careem clarified that drivers would not face penalties or be compelled to pay for delays, as the responsibility to cover the cost lies with the company. Despite the controversy, Careem remains committed to providing a reliable and efficient service to its customers.
The extension of the ‘Dirhams for Delays’ initiative reflects Careem’s dedication to addressing customer concerns and improving their overall experience.
