Google has announced the general availability of generative AI support on Vertex AI, the machine learning platform as a service (ML PaaS) product offered by Google Cloud.
In a blog post, Google Cloud expressed its commitment to making generative AI accessible and useful to a wide range of users. The company believes that simply providing powerful foundation models is not enough; there is a need for platforms that facilitate faster and safer adoption, catering to organizations regardless of their software or data science expertise.
With this update, Google Cloud customers can now take advantage of the latest platform features to create and run unique generative AI applications. The offering includes access to a text model powered by PaLM 2, the Embeddings API for text, and other foundation models available in Model Garden. Additionally, developers can leverage user-friendly tools in Generative AI Studio for model tuning and deployment.
Model Garden, which already offers over 60 accessible models with more to come, allows users to experiment with foundation models from Google and its partners. Vertex AI provides a comprehensive ecosystem of tools to support model developers in fine-tuning, deploying, and managing models in production.
In addition to the generative AI support, Google also announced the public preview of its Codey model, which facilitates code completion, generation, and chat capabilities.
The generative AI support on Vertex AI was initially announced in March of this year, and Google has been working with trusted testers to refine the offering before making it generally available. The company’s goal is to democratize generative AI and empower organizations to unlock the potential of this technology.
