Dubai authorities are joining forces to develop comprehensive drone routes and regulations within the city. The partnership aims to define flight paths for low-altitude drone operations and designate landing and take-off locations.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Integrated Economic Zones (DIEZ) Authority

The Municipality has signed an MoU with the DIEZ Authority as part of the Dubai Horizons System, which organizes routes and landing locations in the low-altitude airspace for drones. This collaboration supports Dubai’s air mobility aspirations and aligns with the Municipality’s objectives and strategies for the Dubai Horizons System.

Objectives and Benefits of the Partnership

The MoU draws upon the partners’ expertise in civil aviation requirements and policies, as well as the Municipality’s urban planning proficiency. Mariam Al Muhairi, Acting CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at the Municipality, highlights that the agreement enhances Dubai’s attractiveness, leadership, and competitiveness in the aviation industry.

Commitment to Cooperation and Exchange of Knowledge

Muammar Al Katheeri, Chief Officer Engineering and Sustainability at DIEZ, emphasizes the authority’s commitment to cooperation and coordination with government entities in Dubai and the UAE. The collaboration aims to provide necessary support for Dubai’s future plans in aviation and other sectors, contributing to the emirate’s global reputation and growth.

Scope and Deliverables of the MoU

The MoU entails the sharing of databases, geographical digital information, and 3D charts related to low-altitude airspace planning in Silicon Oasis. The parties will exchange data and information regarding route planning for drones and landing locations in low-altitude airspace. Additionally, the agreement includes the provision of infrastructure, consulting services in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and defining communication mechanisms for handling requests and emergency situations. DIEZ will support the Municipality in implementing the pilot phase and organizing workshops to ensure compatibility with future urban plans.

Through this collaboration, Dubai aims to establish a robust framework for drone operations, bolstering its position as a global leader in the aviation industry and enhancing the quality of life for its residents.
