OpenAI, the parent company of the popular generative AI chatbot ChatGPT, has officially launched its Android app. Users in India, Bangladesh, Brazil, and the US can now download and utilize the ChatGPT app from Google Play. For users in other countries, preorders are available on the platform, with the possibility of adding more countries to the list in the upcoming week.

Global Adoption and Expansion of ChatGPT

ChatGPT, launched in November last year, quickly gained immense popularity and widespread acceptance among internet users worldwide. The application was well-received by iOS users globally, with availability in India since late May. OpenAI has further expanded its offerings with GPT-4, a subscription-based, more powerful text-generating AI bot.

Tech Giants’ Entry into the Chatbot Arena

Following ChatGPT’s success, tech giants such as Microsoft and Google have entered the chatbot arena. Microsoft introduced AI-powered Bing Chat, while Google launched its own AI bot, Bard, earlier this year. However, with India’s substantial 759 million internet users, the country remains one of the largest markets for OpenAI.

Multilingual Support for Indian Users

Recognizing the demand in India, OpenAI has made ChatGPT available in multiple languages to cater to Indian users’ diverse linguistic preferences. The app supports languages like Hindi, Kannada, Gujarati, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Bengali, Punjabi, and Malayalam, allowing users to interact in their preferred language.

Integration of ChatGPT with Indian Startups

The impact of ChatGPT’s popularity has also been seen in Indian startups. OYO recently introduced a ChatGPT-powered virtual front desk solution in the UK, enabling self-check-ins for hotel partners. Other Indian startups, including ixigo, have unveiled ChatGPT-powered intelligent trip planners, showcasing the diverse applications and potential of generative AI in various sectors.

The recent meeting between OpenAI’s Sam Altman and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Altman’s visit to India signifies the growing importance and potential of AI technologies in the country’s digital landscape. With OpenAI’s continued expansion and focus on India, the adoption of ChatGPT and other AI solutions is expected to witness further growth and innovation in the Indian market.
