Apple considered buying Bing: This may be the reason why the deal didn’t happen

Share via:

Apple considered buying Bing from Microsoft in 2018 as an alternative to using Google as its default search engine, according to testimony from Apple’s head of machine learning, John Giannandrea. The discussions included the possibility of a joint venture, with Microsoft willing to be “very flexible” in sharing revenue. However, Giannandrea ultimately found Google to be a better search engine for Apple’s users and doubted the feasibility of building its own search engine.
