DTDC Express., an integrated express logistics company, has joined the Indian government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) as it aims to revolutionize ecommerce logistics in the country.

Abhishekh said the company will focus on accommodating the growing demands of SMEs, small businesses, entrepreneurs, and local sellers, enabling end-to-end integrated logistics solutions.
Recently, Beverage giant Coca-Cola India marked its entry into ONDC with the launch of its marketplace, the Coke Shop.
The purpose of joining ONDC
By leveraging emerging technologies, DTDC said it aims to empower sellers on the ONDC network, particularly focusing on local businesses and small e-commerce sellers. The company said joining ONDC is part of its aim to enhance its services and position itself as a leader in the logistics sector.
“ONDC’s vision is to create a truly inclusive e-commerce ecosystem wherein every seller, regardless of size, presence, and location, can access equal trading opportunities. With DTDC live on ONDC Network, we are a step closer to this reality,” said T Koshy, MD & CEO, ONDC.
Focused on expanding reach
DTC, which claims to operate in over 5,000 pin codes across more than 100 cities, said it plans to extend its services to all 14,700+ pin codes in its next phase.
Notably, The expansion will include innovative service offerings such as Next Day Delivery, Pick Up and Drop Off (PUDO), and QC-enabled reverse logistics, it said.
The company added that these features are designed to streamline e-commerce operations like order management, inventory tracking, and payment processing to ensure a smooth logistics process for various sellers on the network.
How will it impact small business owners?
DTDC said the collaboration with ONDC is particularly beneficial for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), local sellers, and entrepreneurs. With access to ONDC’s network of 1.5 lakh sellers and small entrepreneurs, DTDC aims to handle 1,500 – 2,000 shipments daily by the end of the year.
The partnership is expected to provide integrated logistics solutions even in the most remote corners of India, thus accommodating the growing demands of these businesses, it added.
What is ONDC?
ONDC is an initiative by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce, Government of India. It aims to revolutionize digital commerce by creating an open, unbundled, and interoperable network.
It’s worth mentioning that ONDC is not limited to a specific application, platform, intermediary, or software but is a set of specifications designed to foster open digital commerce networks.
