Audio products and smartwatch maker boat has unveiled a new smartwatch, which will now offer its users independent navigation abilities without looking at the phone.

Dubbed the Storm Call 3, the smartwatch is India’s first affordable smartwatch to offer built-in maps and turn by turn navigation, The Times of India reported, citing a statement from boAt.

boAt co-founder Sameer Mehta took to LinkedIn to announce the product launch. He said the move came after the D2C unicorn’s research revealed a growing customer demand for a smartwatch equipped with location and GPS services.

Powered by Mappls MapmyIndia and boAt’s Crest App, the Storm Call 3 features a built-in map navigation system, designed to perform autonomously. Meaning, customers don’t have to rely on their smartphones to get navigation instructions.

The newly-unveiled boAt smartwatch provides precise turn-by-turn navigation updates and works across India, spanning tens of thousands of cities and villages, the Times of India reported.

Further the Storm Call 3 comes with a 1.83-inch (4.63 cm) HD display with its brightness peaking at 550 nits. At 240 x 296 pixels, the Storm Call 3 also offers a slightly better display resolution than its predecessor and has a wake gesture feature.

To personalise a customer’s smartwatch experience, boAt has also added support for downloadable watch faces to the Storm Call 3, which can be customised with DIY Watch Face Studio.

The device comes with IP67 rating, Bluetooth 5.2 compatibility and  a built-in microphone, enabling watch-wearers to make calls from their wrists.

boAt’s new fitness watch has over 700 activity modes, such as running, cycling, swimming and yoga among others. It also offers extended battery life, lasting up to 7 days.

The Storm Call 3 has several other compelling features, including intelligent health tracking, which helps users keep track of their heart rate, sleep scores, daily workout activity, et al.

It is also equipped with Camera/Music controls, Notification Alerts, Quick Replies, DND Mode, Weather updates, Games and Uber Alerts.

The boAt Storm Call 3 smartwatch comes in five colours — Cherry Blossom, Active Black, Olive Green, Silver Metal and Dark Blue — and has a ticket price of INR 1,249. Head to boAt’s official website, or visit Flipkart and Blinkit to make the purchase.

The new smartwatch launch comes just days after personal data of more than 7.5 Mn boAt users was allegedly leaked on the dark web, prompting the D2C brand to launch a probe into the matter.

Founded by Aman Gupta and Mehta in 2016, boAt is a leading audio and wearables brand in India, offering a wide range of products, such as headphones, earphones, smart watches, speakers, travel chargers, etc.

As of 2023, 70% of boAt’s audio products were made in India, according to Gupta. In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2023, boAt’s sales surpassed INR 3,000 Cr while its operating revenue rose 18% to INR 3,376.7 Cr.

The startup has raised a total funding of $177 Mn till date and counts Qualcomm Ventures, Warburg Pincus, InnoVen Capital, Navi Technologies, and Fireside Ventures among its backers. Inc42 reported earlier that Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh has also infused capital into boAt.
