Almost a year ago exactly, Disney+ started adding Hulu content to its app. Now, the streamer is integrating ESPN as well via a new tile that will start appearing in the Disney+ app today. And in a nice perk, non-bundle subscribers are getting some Hulu and ESPN content thrown in at no extra charge.
ESPN now integrated into Disney+ app
Disney+ is building itself into an all-in-one app hub. What started as a home only for Disney branded content is now the place users go for Hulu—and starting today, ESPN.
Subscribers have long been able to bundle together Disney’s three flagship streaming services:
Now, ESPN+ subscribers can do all their sports viewing from directly inside the Disney+ app—including ‘more than 30,000 live sports events each year’ and scripted series like Peyton’s Places.
When Disney launches its expected standalone ESPN service next year, even more content will be available. Basically, you’ll be able to get the full cable-like ESPN experience inside the Disney+ app. For now though, ESPN+ content is what’s available now.
There’s also some good news today if you only subscribe to Disney+.
Disney+ subscribers now get select Hulu and ESPN content free
To get all of the content available inside the Disney+ app’s ESPN and Hulu tiles, you’ll need to subscribe to the three-service bundle.
However, Disney is offering a nice perk for standalone Disney+ subscribers too.
The Hulu and ESPN tiles will now be visible to all Disney+ subscribers, regardless of whether you have a bundle. And Disney is providing select free content within those tiles for everyone with an active Disney+ subscription.
Standalone Disney+ subscribers will have access to a curated selection of live sports events, studio shows, and ESPN Films from ESPN+, as well as a select collection of TV series and films from Hulu. From ESPN+, this includes some exciting and unique events in the coming weeks, such as “The Simpsons Funday Football” animated Monday Night Football game, a Christmas Day lineup of five NBA games plus the “Dunk The Halls” animated NBA presentation, select 30 For 30 documentaries, and Day 1 coverage from the Australian Open. And from Hulu, standalone Disney+ subscribers will be able to enjoy groundbreaking movies and series at launch, including Shōgun, Will Trent, Solar Opposites, Reservation Dogs, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and more.
Providing bonus content for standalone Disney+ subscribers is a nice perk, and it should help Disney convert some of those viewers into bundle subscribers in the future, too.
