ChatGPT Search will now be accessible to all users with an account on OpenAI’s mobile apps and website, the AI company announced at an event on Monday. The company also claimed that the feature is now improved and advanced. Previously, the feature was only available to paid subscribers. With the new rollout, users who are logged in to their ChatGPT accounts can now access the feature, regardless of their subscription status.

OpenAI first launched ChatGPT Search in November 2024. During the launch, the company stated that it will continue to improve the search engine and will expand it to its Advanced Voice Mode and make it available to users who aren’t logged in. Staying true to what was promised, OpenAI has done both.
ChatGPT Search: New features
Alongside the launch, OpenAI has unveiled an optimised version of ChatGPT Search for mobile devices, designed to provide a smooth and efficient search experience on smartphones and tablets. Additionally, the feature now includes an advanced voice search mode, allowing users to ask questions and receive answers via voice commands, adding a hands-free element to the search process.
By offering an AI-driven alternative to traditional search engines, OpenAI aims to redefine the search experience, positioning itself as a formidable competitor to Google and other established players in the space. The integration of advanced natural language processing tools promises to enhance the accuracy and relevance of search results, making ChatGPT Search an appealing option for users looking for more than just a list of links.
ChatGPT screen sharing
In a related development, OpenAI has introduced real-time video and screen sharing capabilities to the Advanced Voice Mode of its ChatGPT AI chatbot. The company demonstrated this new feature during the same event. Users can now share their screens with ChatGPT and request feedback on various tasks, such as solving complex math problems. To initiate video, users will notice a video icon at the bottom left of the ChatGPT chat window, which they can click to begin. For screen sharing, a simple tap on the three-dot menu will reveal the “Share Screen” option.
This feature was first hinted at in May, when GPT-4 showcased its ability to observe and describe the actions in a game through a conversational lens. However, the full rollout of the vision feature was delayed several times, as OpenAI initially felt it was not yet ready for production.
The new capability is now accessible on iOS and Android mobile apps for ChatGPT Teams, Plus, and Pro users. It will be rolled out to ChatGPT Enterprise and Edu subscribers in January. However, it’s important to note that the advanced voice mode will not be available in several EU countries.
