IndiaAI, a division under Digital India Corporation, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Microsoft to accelerate the adoption and development of artificial intelligence (AI) across India, the Ministry of Electronics and IT announced on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The partnership aims to position India as a global leader in AI, focusing on skilling, innovation, and responsible AI practices.

Key initiatives of the collaboration include:
- Skilling 500,000 People: Microsoft and IndiaAI will provide AI training to students, educators, developers, government officials, and women entrepreneurs by 2026.
- AI Catalysts and Rural Innovation: Establishing Centers of Excellence in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, aimed at nurturing 100,000 AI innovators through hackathons and community-building initiatives.
- AI Productivity Labs: Setting up labs in 20 National Skill Training Institutes across 10 states to train 20,000 educators and empower 100,000 students in foundational AI courses with foundational AI courses in 200 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).
- AI Solutions for Critical Sectors: Leveraging Microsoft Research’s (MSR) expertise to develop AI-driven solutions for critical sectors in India.
- Support for Startups: Microsoft’s Founders Hub program will provide Azure credits, mentorship, and resources to 1,000 AI startups in India.
- Focus on Linguistic Diversity: Developing AI models with support for India’s diverse languages and cultural contexts.
- Responsible AI Development: Creating frameworks and standards for ethical AI development, including the establishment of an AI Safety Institute in India.

Advancing India’s AI ecosystem
