The recent launch of DeepSeek, a Chinese large language model (LLM) built at a fraction of the cost of OpenAI’s GPT-4, has ignited a debate about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) funding and innovation in India. Aakrit Vaish, adviser, IndiaAI Mission, said on X (formerly Twitter) that DeepSeek’s emergence could lead to a bifurcation of AI venture capital, with smaller seed rounds becoming sufficient for initial traction and profitability, followed by the need for much larger sums for “world dominance.”
