Despite having the first-mover advantage in the foldable smartphone category, Samsung seems to have hit the wall with innovation. Since releasing the first Galaxy Fold in 2019, it has refined the design and stuck to it while not bringing much novelty to the table.

Meanwhile, Chinese competitors have pushed the boundaries—OnePlus introduced the nearly creaseless Open in 2023, Huawei unveiled the trifold Mate X in 2024, and OPPO is now making waves with the ultra-slim Find N5 in 2025.
