Wipro: Wipro promotes insider Omkar Nisal to head Europe unit

Wipro on Monday promoted yet another insider Omkar Nisal appointing him as the chief executive officer for Europe strategic market unit (SMU), effective immediately. Based in London, Omkar will report to the company’s CEO and MD Srini Pallia and will also join the Wipro executive board, the Bengaluru IT major said in a stock exchange filing.

Nisal succeeds Pierre Bruno, who is stepping down after four years, the company informed in the filing. Bruno will continue to work with Nisal for a smooth transition, it added.

Bruno is the fourth big departure from Wipro since Pallia took charge on April 6 following the exit of former chief Thierry Delaporte. Since then, chief operating officer Amit Choudhary and Asia Pacific, India, Middle East, and Africa (APMEA) president Anis Chenchah resigned in May while chief technology officer Subha Tatavarti quit the company in August.

Incidentally, all the departing executives were hired by the former chief Delaporte during his tenure after they worked together at France-headquartered technology giant Capgemini.

Over the past one year alone, Wipro is likely to have lost more than ten executives including the high profile exit of its former chief financial officer Jatin Dalal, which got Wipro to file a legal suit for breach of employment contract. Other exits include head of Switzerland René Mulder,

Wipro also elevated at least six insiders including Malay Joshi to head Americas 1, Sarat Chand to lead the Northern Europe region, Vinay Firake as CEO of APMEA (Asia Pacific, India, Middle East, and Africa) and Hari Shetty as chief strategist and sales excellence officer, among others.
