Pharmaceutical Industry Association sends legal notice to Shark Tank India for promoting illegal business ‘Pharmallama’

Share via:

Shark Tank India, the popular reality TV show that brings budding entrepreneurs and investors together, is facing backlash from the pharmaceutical industry for promoting an illegal business called ‘Pharmallama.’ According to industry experts, Pharmallama is operating against the rules and regulations prescribed in the Drugs & Cosmetics Act & Rules, and its promotion on national television is only serving to encourage more such illegal activities.

In response to this issue, the pharmaceutical industry association had earlier sent a letter to all stakeholders, including Sony India and the investors who had invested in the said business. However, as no response was received from their side, the association has now sent a legal notice regarding the same. If the promotion of such illegal activities continues, the association has warned that they will file a legal case against the show’s producers and investors.

Pharmallama is the online platform of Mera Dawai Pvt. Ltd. Pharmallama is a ‘full-servicing pharmacy and comprehensive medication management platform’ which provides medication to users in pre-sorted sachets.

The issue of illegal and unregulated pharmaceutical businesses is not a new one, and the consequences of such activities can be severe. In recent years, there have been several instances of illegal pharmaceutical businesses operating in India, leading to a range of problems such as counterfeit medicines, improper handling of drugs, and inadequate quality control.

The Drugs & Cosmetics Act & Rules have been put in place to prevent such activities and ensure that only regulated and licensed businesses operate in the pharmaceutical industry. However, the promotion of an illegal business like Pharmallama on national television sends the wrong message and can be a cause for concern.

The pharmaceutical industry association has urged all stakeholders to take this issue seriously and refrain from promoting any illegal or unregulated businesses. The association has also called for stricter regulations and better monitoring of the pharmaceutical industry to ensure that such activities are detected and dealt with promptly.

As Shark Tank India continues to gain popularity and influence in the Indian entrepreneurial ecosystem, it is essential that the show’s producers and investors take responsibility for the businesses they promote. By promoting illegal activities, they not only jeopardize the safety and well-being of consumers but also damage the reputation of the pharmaceutical industry as a whole.

In conclusion, the issue of illegal and unregulated pharmaceutical businesses requires urgent attention and action from all stakeholders involved. The pharmaceutical industry association’s legal notice to Shark Tank India serves as a reminder that illegal activities will not be tolerated and that regulations must be followed to ensure the safety and well-being of consumers.
