Over 8,700 complaints filed against taxi aggregators in 2.5years

The government informed Parliament on Wednesday that the National Consumer Helpline received 8,740 complaints about cab aggregators in the previous two and a half years (July 20).

The majority of the complaints were about service deficiencies, insufficient consumer grievance redressal mechanisms, and driver cancellation, among other things. This was stated by Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, in response to a question from MPs Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo and Jayanta Kumar Roy. The minister also stated that two major online ride hailing platforms have already received notices for violations of consumer rights and unfair trade practises. The MoS was referring to Uber and Ola, both of which have faced government action.
