Can’t rely on free speech to avoid legal action: Delhi High Court to Telegram

Share via:

The Delhi High Court ordered Telegram to disclose the details of channels, including their mobile numbers and IP addresses, in a sealed cover if they are disseminating certain content in violation of copyright law.

“Telegram also relied on privacy protection laws under Article 21 of the Constitution and Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution, which protects the right to free speech and expression.” In these facts and circumstances, the same is completely inappropriate,” Justice Prathibha M Singh observed. The court also stated that Telegram, as a copyright infringer, cannot rely on the Right to Free Expression.
