Microsoft’s AI chatbot, Bing Chat, is making its way to non-Microsoft browsers, as the company confirmed today. Users had reported sightings of the AI chatbot in browsers like Google Chrome and Apple’s Safari, and now, Microsoft is officially expanding its availability beyond its own products.

Access to a Broader Set of Users

With this expansion, Microsoft’s ChatGPT-like AI chatbot will be accessible to a wider range of users. Previously, Bing Chat was limited to consumers within Microsoft products, such as the Bing mobile app and the Microsoft Edge browser.

Testing and Select Users

Microsoft director of communications, Caitlin Roulston, confirmed the expansion, stating that access to Bing Chat are testing on Safari and Chrome for select users. The company aims to provide access to even more users once the standard testing procedures are complete.

Bing Chat Experience in Other Browsers

Users who gained access to Bing AI chatbot on Windows received a pop-up in the taskbar, offering the opportunity to try the Bing AI in Chrome. Alternatively, users can visit Bing.com and click on the “Chat” icon to experience Bing Chat. However, other browsers have reported some limitations, such as Chrome supporting only five messages per conversation compared to 30 in Microsoft Edge.

Future Discoveries and Expansions

Microsoft declined to provide further details about the differences between Bing Chat versions in different browsers or the start date of the expansion. Additionally, Bing Chat seems to be testing a native dark theme, although it is not yet widely available.

Since its launch, Microsoft has gradually integrated Bing Chat into various products.
It recently entered the enterprise with business-focused data privacy and governance controls. Alongside this, Visual Search, which allows the chatbot to respond to questions about uploaded images, has also been rolling out. The expansion to non-Microsoft browsers marks another milestone in Bing Chat’s journey to reach a wider audience and offer its AI-powered services to a more diverse user base.
