According to Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the new telecom bill could be implemented within the next six to ten months.
“We will create (a) final draftt based on the consultation process.” The draught will then go through Parliamentary committee processes. Then it must be presented to Parliament. “I see a timeline of 6-10 months, but we are not in a rush,” Vaishnaw said. He made the remarks during a media roundtable discussion about draught telecom bill, which was released earlier this month. The Department of Telecommunications has requested feedback on the draftt Bill and has set an October 20 deadline for receiving comments. In an address to the media, Vaishnaw stated that the draft bill will provide an enabling framework for user protection and privacy.
