The government has extended the deadline for implementing new battery testing standards for electric vehicles (EVs) from October 1, 2022 to October 1, 2023, and the standards will now be implemented in two phases.
The amended testing norms will go into effect on December 1, 2022, with phase 2 taking effect on March 31, 2023, according to a statement from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways. According to the Road Transport Ministry, the timeline has been extended to ensure that OEMs are better prepared to comply with and implement the new standards. The updated AIS 156 and AIS 038 Rev.2 standards include new safety requirements for EV battery cells, battery management systems, and battery pack design, among other things.
