The Competition Commission of India (CCI) ordered another investigation into Google on Friday (October 7) over alleged abuse of dominance in the news aggregator space.
The order was issued in response to a complaint filed against Alphabet, Google LLC, Google India, Google Ireland, and Google Asia Pacific by the New Delhi-based News Broadcasters and Digital Association (NBDA). The CCI stated that the investigation will be combined with two other investigations into Google involving similar allegations. The competition authority has ordered the Director General (DG) to submit a consolidated investigation report into the matter. The NBDA claimed that its members are forced to provide their news content to Google in order to rank higher on Google search pages, citing Google’s unfair revenue sharing agreement with digital news portals.
