Twitter to postpone the implementation of the verification check mark until after US midterm elections

Share via:

Twitter is reportedly delaying the distribution of verification check marks to subscribers in order to avoid any potential impact from Tuesday’s midterm elections.

On Monday, the Elon Musk-owned social media company planned to launch a revamped version of its subscription service, Twitter Blue. According to an app update note, the company began testing the new features on Saturday. Twitter did not respond immediately to a request for comment. The reported decision to postpone the rollout of verification badges comes just days before the November 8 midterm elections in the United States. According to the New York Times, the move was made to limit the potential fallout from verified users impersonating political or other government figures, such as President Biden, or news outlets reporting false results, which could discourage others from voting.
