India lifted the download ban on VLC, more than nine months after it mysteriously blocked the official website of the popular media playback software in the South Asian market.
The maker of the well-known programme, VideoLAN, submitted a legal notice last month asking the country’s IT and telecom ministries to provide an explanation for the block order. According to the Internet Freedom Foundation, a legal supporter of VideoLAN based in New Delhi, the Ministry of Electronics and IT has lifted its ban on the VLC media player website. The order was confirmed by VideoLAN.
