Union Minister Anurag Thakur stated that the union government is working on a Bill to regulate digital media in the country, which may ruffle some feathers.
“Digital media presents both opportunities and challenges… I would say that changes to the law are required, and we will implement them in order to make your work simpler and easier. The Minister was quoted as saying, “We are working on introducing a bill.” The Centre also intends to enact a new law to replace the Press and Registration of Books Act of 1867. Work responsibly and avoid instilling fear and confusion, says MIB Minister Anurag Thakur. This comes months after it was widely reported that the government was working on a Bill to impose a new registration regime for digital news portals.
