Indian Trade Unions join Amazon protests on Black Friday

Several Indian trade unions joined a global walkout call on ‘Black Friday’ to protest Amazon’s alleged exploitative practises.

The campaign was joined by organisations such as Bharatiya Udyog Vyapar Mandal, Hawkers’ Joint Action Committee, Gig Workers’ Association and All India People Science Network, All India IT and ITeS Employees’ Union, and Joint Action Committee against Foreign Retail and E-commerce. The gig workers association has stated that they will hold protests in 11 cities across the country, while the hawkers joint action committee has stated that they will hold protests in 15 cities. Amazon employees in 20 countries, including India, protested the company on Black Friday in 2021.
