Social commerce startup Kapu raised $8 million seed funding

Social commerce startup Kapu raised $8 million seed funding, hoping to help lessen the burden of buying food for Kenyan consumers, many of whom are grappling with the sky-rocketing food prices.

Kapu founder Sam Chappatte, an ex-Jumia executive, stated that the startup has been building a b2c e-commerce service that allows consumers to buy groceries at lower prices through online and offline channels since its inception in January this year. The startup is currently expanding its network of local agents through which customers can place orders. It will soon be able to accept WhatsApp orders as well. Kapu enables group bulk-buying of groceries by sourcing directly from manufacturers and producers, claiming to help consumers save up to 30% on fresh produce and packaged consumer goods.
