Gogoro, in a strategic move to expand its presence in India, has introduced its battery-swapping ecosystem for B2B customers in Delhi and Goa, with further plans to extend to Mumbai and Pune by the first half of 2024. Alongside this, the Taiwan-based company has unveiled its first smart scooter manufactured in India, the CrossOver GX250. Gogoro primarily collaborates with B2B clients in India, offering access to its swapping network for third-party e-scooter manufacturers, with Zypp being one of its notable clients.
Horace Luke, the founder and CEO of Gogoro, emphasized the impact on cities by enabling last-mile delivery riders to adopt smart and sustainable electric transportation, considering they cover more than six times the distance compared to consumer riders. In addition to its operations in Taiwan, Gogoro will now manufacture its electric scooters in India, starting with the CrossOver GX250.
The smart scooter has been specifically optimized for Indian riders, featuring increased seating and storage space, along with enhanced ground clearance. Currently, the CrossOver GX250 is available, with the other two variants expected to begin shipping in 2024. Gogoro’s vehicle manufacturing facility is situated in Maharashtra, India, and the company has obtained permission from the Small Industries Development of India (SIDBI) to access EV financing programs, acknowledging its status as a foreign two-wheeler manufacturer.
