Telangana has once again secured its position as the top performer in the States’ Startup Rankings for the year 2022. The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, operating under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, commended the state for its commendable efforts in cultivating a robust startup ecosystem. Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal released the States’ Startup Rankings for 2022, encompassing 33 states and Union territories.
The rankings categorized states into five groups: best performers, top performers, leaders, aspiring leaders, and emerging startup ecosystems. Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Himachal Pradesh were acknowledged as the best-performing states. Telangana, Maharashtra, and Odisha earned the distinction of being top performers. The rankings were determined based on the initiatives taken by the states to foster the growth of the startup ecosystem and support emerging entrepreneurs.
The Telangana government received a certificate of appreciation from the Centre, recognizing its praiseworthy initiatives. According to the certificate, Telangana has excelled in building a proactive mechanism, providing comprehensive institutional support, and implementing holistic policies to foster entrepreneurship among marginalized groups. The state’s initiatives include the establishment of an ‘Impact Fund’ focused on rural and social enterprises, financial assistance to early-stage startups through ‘T-Seed Fund’ and ‘T-IDEA,’ and the development of schemes to support entrepreneurs from SC/ST, differently-abled persons, and women.
Telangana’s achievements extend beyond these initiatives, as it has been acknowledged as a capacity-building pioneer, a funding leader, a sustainability promoter, an innovative leader, and an institutional champion. In response to the accolade, BRS working president and former Industries Minister KT Rama Rao stated, “This award is a testimony to the robust ecosystem built over the last 10 years.” He expressed congratulations to all stakeholders for their contributions to strengthening the innovation ecosystem in Telangana.
