Swiggy, Instamart, Dunzo, and others may soon be required to include additional food label information

Online marketplaces may be required to display key health and nutritional warnings alongside the retail price for packaged food items sold on their platforms. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is developing new rules, and thus there may be restrictions on sharing nutritional information.

If these rules are implemented, ecommerce companies and quick commerce players like Swiggy Instamart, Dunzo, Blinkit, and Zepto may be required to provide this information “below or near the market retail price,” according to the report. To reduce the consumption of unhealthy foods, the food safety regulator is considering mandating front-of-pack nutritional labelling to alert consumers about high fat, sugar, and salt foods, according to ET.
