BigBox VR announced on Tuesday that Population: One, Meta’s VR battle royale shooter acquired in 2021, will become a free-to-play game. The game is currently priced at $30 on the Quest Store, but it will be available for free beginning March 9th.

Population: One has proven to be a popular title, garnering a four-star average rating from over 11,000 ratings on the Quest Store. (It’s also available on Steam, where it currently has over 2,000 reviews.) However, by making the game free to play, Meta appears to be attempting to reach a much larger audience than it already has. After all, it worked for PUBG: Battlegrounds.
