Ola seeks out-of-court settlement with leased car drivers to end legal squabble

In a new twist to the ongoing battle over car ownership between ride-hailing giant Ola and thousands of its drivers across the country, the Bengaluru-headquartered firm has offered an out-of-court settlement to at least 1,000 drivers in Lucknow, according to the source.

Ola officials have reached out to several representatives of drivers in Lucknow, offering them car ownership in exchange for a payment of more than INR 1 lakh by each driver. According to one of the sources, SoftBank-backed Ola has also offered to repay drivers’ security deposits of INR 17,000 as part of the settlement. Previously, Ola drivers from various cities banded together to file legal claims against the ride-hailing company for “cheating” them by breaching the contract for its car lease scheme.
